Overview of Technology of Participation (ToP) Offerings

ToP Facilitation Methods (TFM), 2 days

This is a hands-on demonstration and practice course for participants who want to learn how to facilitate the three collaborative methods that are the foundation of the Technology of Participation: focused conversation, the consensus workshop method, and action planning.

ToP Strategic Planning (TSP), 2 days

Participants learn how to facilitate a participatory, consensus-based approach to strategic planning for establishing a solid foundation for organizational/workgroup/committee/ coalition success. The course weaves ToP methods into an integrated approach that builds on group learning, participation, and consensus. The end product goes beyond process with a plan that is realistic, achievable, supported, and easy to manage through to implementation and results. (Prerequisite: TFM)

Facilitation for Innovation – Inspiring Group Creativity, 1 day

Facilitating group creativity and innovative action has always been a challenge, perhaps never more so than when a group is tasked to “think out of the box” on the spot and come up with new solutions to a problem or situation. This is a highly interactive course that utilizes creative tools to explore and practice group innovation. Participants learn methods that can be immediately applied to foster creative teamwork.

Course can be customized as a teambuilding experience, grounded in the team’s needs and stage of development, yet in the real-time context of working together, getting work done.

Making Meetings Work: Group Facilitation Essentials

Length / Duration of Class: 1 or 2 Day; Also available as a 1.5 to 2 Hr. Introductory Workshop

Overview:

This course is for anyone who leads groups in meetings, and wants to maximize group decision making, collective contributions and results. With a mix of experiential activities and practice, foundational skills for meeting management, group management, and versatile facilitation methods enable participants to facilitate with greater confidence, poised and ready for typical surprises in large group meeting work.

Introduction to Program/Outcome Evaluation

Length / Duration of Class: 1 or 2 Day; Also available as a 1.5 to 2 Hr. Introductory Workshop

Overview:

This intermediate course is designed to introduce participants to a framework for planning evaluation and demonstrating results to different audiences/stakeholder groups.  The framework clarifies the audience for the evaluation, short, intermediate and long-range outcomes, the data collection and analyses plan, and how to manage the evaluation over time.  Participants are also introduced to various types of performance measures in connection with a SMART planning model.

Change Management Essentials

Length / Duration of Class: 1 or 3 day; Also available as a 1.5 to 2 Hr. Introductory Workshop

Overview:

This course is designed to build capacity in facilitating specific group facilitation tools for change management.  Building on extensive research and practice, proven principles of change readiness are incorporated through an experiential learning process of demonstration and facilitation practice.

Course Title: Facilitating Logic Models: Aligning Focus for Realizing Results (under development)

Length / Duration of Class: 1 day; Also available as a 1.5 to 2 Hr. Introductory Workshop

Overview: This course is designed for engaging stakeholders in facilitating program focus for demonstrating results with evaluation logic models. It introduces the logic model framework and two proven large group process methods.

Course Title: Virtual Teambuilding and Collaboration JumpStart (under development)

Length / Duration of Class: 6 sessions of 1.5 to 2 hrs. each; Customizable with add-on modules

Overview: This foundational course is essential for launching new project teams. The foundation includes (1) establishing agreements and shared meaning related to project goals, roles/responsibilities, project deliverables and scope; (2) understanding the strengths, personalities, relationship differences of the group/team; and (3) reaching agreements about the processes for working together in a virtual environment. This can be customized with add-on modules to meet the specific needs and challenges of complex, diverse collaborative teams (geographically dispersed, interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary).

 Course Title: Leading Group Collaboration (under development)

Length / Duration of Class: 1 or 3 Day; Also available as a 1.5 to 2 Hr. Introductory Workshop

Overview: A mix of methods across the common reasons people meet are demonstrated and practiced, including:

  • Simple methods for welcoming and connecting
  • Discussion and exploration methods
  • Understanding assessments and data methods
  • Creating the future methods

 Course Title: Data-Based Strategic Planning (under development)

Length / Duration of Class: 1 or 2 Day

Overview: This course is designed for professionals who work with community members and large groups in facilitating planning and other collaborative, democratic/consensus-based decision-making processes.  Participants learn methods for facilitating a large group strategic or long-range planning process that is grounded in data (from surveys, market intelligence, evaluation plans, etc.) to drive continuous improvement based on realistic priorities.
